To that end, I used OllyDbg version 2.00. OllyDbg is an excellent debugger. The features I appreciated most were: visual representation of branches, modify (by assembling) in-place, and most of all the ability to save modified executable. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was the successor to my favourite in the series: Heroes of Might and Magic 2.
There is no way music could be misplaced as the track files are a clear CD rip (note track names in Music folder). Actually I switched to my rip files as they have higher bit rate (500kbps as opposed to ~128 AFAIR). If you prefer original SW music, you can get it from from the links I've posted some time ago.

It is possible to update this dll by downloading up-to-date version from github: but this version isnt optimised for heroes 2: each song starts playing from beginning when music is changed in-game. @kastal provided one solution for this: re-create mixed CD iso, then install some program for emulating disc image, then mount this CD.
How to play Heroes of Might and Magic II on DOS: Almost exactly the same as Heroes 1, you need to extract all the games files on a folder for example c:\dosheroes2\ and type these commands con DOSBox: mount c c:\dos. mount f c:\dosheroes2 -t cdrom. c: cd heroes2. heroes2.gdyQUp.
